Park Electrochemical Announces UL Authorization of PTFE and FR-4 Mixed Package Materials

LAKE SUCCESS, New York, September 30, 2002…Park Electrochemical Corp. (NYSE – PKE) announced that it had received Notice of Authorization from Underwriters’ Laboratories for the manufacture of mixed packages using PTFE and FR-4 materials.

UL certification provides the high frequency RF design community proof of UL compliance when designing hybrid multilayers combining Park/Nelco FR-4 and N9000 series PTFE laminates.
Hybrid multilayers are designed for two very different applications. Traditionally hybrid FR-4 / PTFE products were designed to allow the combination of RF and digital applications on a single multilayer circuit. Most recently, hybrid manufacturing has been adopted to allow multilayers to withstand the rigors of sequential lamination. In this technique, various material cores and prepregs are chosen for their thermal capability to withstand the rigorous demands required during additional lamination steps. Historically PTFE laminates were made by niche suppliers and FR-4 materials were made by high volume laminate manufacturers. This Park/Nelco offering is the first in the industry to provide the complete list of materials needed for hybrid manufacturing.
